Pink October Wrap Up

Well we're nearing the end of October and this means Pink for October is also nearing it's end.  It's been an a-m-a-z-i-n-g month and I've learned so much. I met a lot of wonderful people and discovered I could fit even more into an already packed schedule, hah!

For me this was the first Pink for October where I held the online reigns for PinkforOctober.org  Although is  was a new journey it certainly was not a solo.  We had several lovely souls step up to help and none more so than my dear friend Sherry of finding the Fierce. A HuGe thank you goes out to Sherry for her unending help with all things Pink! From providing a wealth of website content and single-handedly posting on our new pink blog to her own weekly interviews and informative videos, Sherry has done an amazing job of educating, enlightening, and touching our hearts!  Thank you so much my dear friend♥

I learned so much this month and in some cases more than I wished to, as in the case of Pink Washing and idiocies like pink hand guns, but this month was also filled with heartwarming stories like that of Cathy Bueti ~ I was fortunate enough to win a copy of her book Breastless in the City.

We had a lot of visitors to the website and our new Facebook page was a huge success!  Of course there were many more tasks I wish I could have accomplished but all-in-all I think we did a pretty terrific job of pulling things together in just a few months.  It was a great kick off to this new pink adventure and I'm profoundly thankful for the opportunity.

I want to thank all of you who participated in this global event ~ from donning a pink ribbon to turning your entire network pink (waves to Bon and the MOF group!), each one of you helped carry this torch a little further and may indeed have saved a life.   So even though pink is winding down for the month let's remember what we've learned  and continue forward ~ self examinations are a must-do in our monthly routines and mammograms are an essential part of our annual check ups ~ whether man or woman. And remember, you can always find more resources on the PinkforOctober.org website, blog, and Facebook page!

Best~

In the Pink

Well October is upon us and as you might have guessed things are rather in the pink ~ that's Pink for October of course!  The website (pinkforoctober.org) is booming with visitors and views doubling daily.

Volunteers are stepping up to help out with popular social feeds (thank you, thank you, thank you) and the Inbox is simply bursting at the seems!  It's a wonderful time ~ a time to go pink, learn more, spread the word and help save a life.
White House going pink (whitehouse.gov)

From around the globe professionals and individuals are going pink!

Jackson City fountains go pink (wlbt.com)

Indeed, a sight to be hold!

At PinkforOctober.org, the drive is to turn the internet pink!  It's a cause started many years ago by my predecessor Matthew Oliphant and a torch I now carry. It's not a solo journey though ~ from the volunteers helping to run our Facebook and Twitter pages to contributing content to all of you who are turning pink ~ it's a mission and journey we can all share.

Case in point ~ my dear friend (and our greatest contributor over at P4O) Sherry of  finding the Fierce is doing a month long series on going pink.  Check out her October 1st kick off by clicking here.

So how do you get involved?  Simple ~ stop by the Pink for October website and grab some pink ~ a button, badge, or background to show your support for breast cancer awareness!  Then... spread the word ~ write a blog post, a Twitter shout, or share on Facebook and follow our feeds  Here are some links to help you find more pink:

Remember, this is about turning the internet pink for the month to help spread knowledge and awareness ~ this is not about making money or corporate sponsors.  Just us little guys helping to make a difference.

Best~

Wednesday

P4O update~

They say if you want something done, ask someone who's busy and heaven knows that's true ~ I spent a few all-nighters on the Pink for October website last week but couldn't be happier with the progress. The site is now transferred and I've got the basic structure live so if you get a chance, hop on over to PinkforOctober.org and look around ~ it's in desperate need of content but that's on it's way.

Links to the new Facebook and Twitter pages are there as well, so feel free to click and follow. More social and feed links will be coming soon. We've had some wonderful souls step up to help out with those and so many more who've offered ~ thank you, thank you, thank you!

This little project really isn't about me, it's about all of us ~ we all know someone who's fought this battle, whether it's the person we see in the mirror or someone close to our heart, so stepping outside of our routines to click a few links and write a quick post is a great way to give back and help spread the word. Just think if one little post we write motivates a friend or loved one to finally make the appointment for a mammogram they may have been putting off ~ our little effort might save the life of a mother, daughter, sister, or friend. So take the time, write a post, spread the word♥

I'm currently putting together a description and list of activities for those of you who've offered to help so you can look for that in your email sometime this week. If you only left a comment and didn't send me a personal email, it's not too late, just send out a quick message to me at plumroselane@gmail.com and I'll be sure to add you to that mailing.

Enjoy~

Do you have PiNk....??

I can't deny that PiNk is in the air ~ it seems to be a ribbon winding it's way through my life at the moment and as always life has such a funny way of being ironic, you just can't help but smile and shake your head. I want to share a few recent occurrences with you but trust me ~ this isn't mean to be an "Oh dear" post as much as it's a "power in numbers" sort of thing, so here goes...

The phone rang this morning ~ the imagining center wants me to return for a second' look-see' on my recent mammogram and honestly I'm not worried. I have so many lovely survivor friends that the thought of what I watched my mom go through as a child seems prehistoric. The funny thing is I found myself on the phone with the local chapter of Susan G. Komen, requesting a voucher for that second look. Turns out my insurance ended yesterday but I got the voucher and couldn't be more thankful for services like this ~ whoot!

The next pink occurrence in my day was a small sale and low and behold if it wasn't a set of my Pink for October bookmarks ~ hmmm, I thought. Isn't that ironic.

This all makes me think about a little something I've been working on lately. Honestly it's a pretty big something for me and would mean so much but you know how it goes with sharing things before they happen... they have a way of falling apart right before your eyes. I do realize there's power in numbers though and so I'm taking a chance and sharing ~ you see there's a certain Pink for October website I'm trying to acquire. The owner who ran it a few years back hasn't had time to keep up with it and after participating in annual P4O activities I really missed it so I thought, why not try to keep the flame going myself.

It's a slow process and heaven knows I haven't a clue how I'd manage it financially but you know it's like getting that call this morning ~ you just have faith that things will be o.k. I think in a way that's what PiNk is to me ~ it's having faith... faith in my friends, faith in my own little pink flower, and faith that things just have a way of working out the way they should. So how about you... do you have PiNk?

free bookmark/tag

You can find more free P4O items by clicking here

I created this little bookmark to help you keep PiNk going in your own life. Click on the image to download this freebie bookmark/tag. If you could keep my little P4O project in your hearts and prayers too, I would really appreciate it. I can't tell you how much it would mean to keep that site going ~ for my mom, for my friends, for all of you out there like me who celebrate PiNk... and of course, I'll let you know if when it all works out.

Pink for October

As many of my followers know, I've taken an active roll in Pink for October for years ~ from sponsoring giveaways to creating free images, I do what I can to help promote awareness for this essential movement each year.

Although the commercialism over recent years has become a bit disconcerting, what with so many corporations jumping on the bandwagon to participate and make a buck it can be very disheartening but, remembering my own Mother's fight and loss to this tragic disease while I was growing up serves as a constant drive to continue doing all I can to help promote the fight.

This year I've added a selection of freebies from badges to backgrounds, there's something to help everyone participate across multiple social networks.

So check out the link list below to find blog buttons, Twitter backgrounds, and more. I will continue adding to this list as we move into the beginning of October and hope to have a new separate section on my blog to permanently host all these P4O freebies.
