Make Good Art~

I received a comment on one of my posts from a dear online friend. She's someone I don't honestly know very well but has quickly gained the status of "dear".  It seems the universe has selected to use her in my life as one who delivers support, inspiration, and treasured gifts.

Within her comment lay a golden egg ~ not the kind that brings riches but rather that of the rarest sort; one of inspiration and insight.  Nestled within her words was a link to a video...


I'm not sure if Els knew what she was doing when she casually shared that link with me.  I can only tell you that what it proved to be was the most perfect gift and exactly what I needed. 

So thank you Els, whether you know it or not you are a treasure ~ the kind that sparkles through a dim path, catches our attention and whisks us off to an open field of glistening light, color, and beauty.

Oh and to all of my customers who are waiting so patiently ~ thank you for being happy with two out of three, I can't tell you how much I appreciate your patience and understanding. I am surely doing my best to earn that trust.

Balancing Act

I've been out of commission a good bit of this week (yes, that last post was up way too long) and I'm so happy to be back!  It's been one of the strangest weeks ~ from power outages to flea bombs (trust me, don't ask) but I'm just happy to be back in the saddle again.

Being away from electronics for several days reminded me of the treasure of balance.  I tend to work f-a-a-a-r too much, yes it's because I'm trying to eek out an existence, but still, keeping a sense of balance in our lives is super important. 

Not being able to work or attend online classes I found myself going back to what I love most ~ again creating with my hands.  While the sun still provided light I created this multi-strand bracelet. It's one I've had in mind for ages and even had all the materials set aside, but just never had the time to work on. 

I'm glad it's finished and plan on fitting more of these into my weekly schedule, not because I need them to make money but simply because I love creating them.

Connecting

I'm feeling a bit off this weekend ~ a bit disconnected. It's probably from all the work I've been doing lately that's kept me glued to this desk.  With Pink for October in full swing, a massive "To-Do" list of custom projects, and classwork to get through, it doesn't leave much time in the day for outings and frivolity.

Honestly the few moments I spend connecting with friends throughout each day have been through Facebook lately. It's almost embarrassing to admit, until I realize how much happiness it brings me.   I'm lucky in that most of my friends are very positive and post a wonderful assortment of uplifting imagery, messages, and quotes.  I've always been a big believer in "we are what we eat"  ~ or think, or speak, or hear ~ and it certainly seems to be the case for me as I always feel better after reading their posts.

Today I found a video on Facebook about, well... Facebook.  It made me stop and realize that even though I've been known to put-it-down right along with all the other naysayers, that in truth Fadebook really is a tool I use each day to connect with friends and family, to bring a bit of happiness and beauty into my life and others.


So maybe it's true, like everything else in life, that it's what we make of it. While I don't have time to play games or get involved in political squabbles I do find the joy of encouragement and connecting with others.  Whatever the case I shamefully admit that I'm thankful for Facebook ~ it helps me connect to those I truly love, like, and appreciate and my life would be far more lonely and isolated without it.

In the Pink

Well October is upon us and as you might have guessed things are rather in the pink ~ that's Pink for October of course!  The website (pinkforoctober.org) is booming with visitors and views doubling daily.

Volunteers are stepping up to help out with popular social feeds (thank you, thank you, thank you) and the Inbox is simply bursting at the seems!  It's a wonderful time ~ a time to go pink, learn more, spread the word and help save a life.

At PinkforOctober.org, the drive is to turn the internet pink!  It's a cause started many years ago by my predecessor Matthew Oliphant and a torch I now carry. It's not a solo journey though ~ from the volunteers helping to run our Facebook and Twitter pages to contributing content to all of you who are turning pink ~ it's a mission and journey we can all share.
