More Newness
Just like my spring garden, we've got more newness popping up here at Plumrose Lane and that's in the form of some brand new blog themes (crowd goes wild!).*smile* These new themes are bursting with beauty and gobs of intricate details... I love the darling little blue bird with patina-ed crown in Cotton Butterfly and how about those shells, feathers, and bones in Featherly? ~ sheer bohemian delight!

These newest themes are also packed full of color which makes them a perfect submission for Creative Everyday's monthly challenge ~ "Color"! Participating in Leahs's monthly challenges is my little way of stepping outside my busy custom-work schedule to create something "just for fun". You can stop by Leah's blog to check out all the wonderful submissions for this month's challenge and be sure to look over her own artwork which always leaves me thoroughly inspired.

The Psychology of Color
This week we've been studying the psychology of color in class and I must admit it's been fascinating. We learned all sorts of interesting information including various color philosophies and common uses.
Did you know we don't usually eat "gray" foods?
That pink (specifically Baker-Miller) is used to calm inmates in prisons?
Or that in a group of colored objects, you'll usually see the yellow object first?
While colors can be associated with many common ideas or factors, personal preferences, mood and experiences can affect a persons view of color as well.
I'm not sure what mood I was in while creating last week's assignment on complementary and split-complementary harmonies...
As a designer it's interesting to look back over my own work and wonder what was it that made me select "that" color or "this" one. I may not be able to understand the past, but having learned so much about color and it's psychological meanings, I've no doubt it will play a big role in noticing how I use it in the future.

Fundamentals of Color ~ week 1
This week at Ai we began a new class studying the Fundamentals of Color and it's certainly one I've been looking forward to as I simply L♥Ve color! It was fascinating to learn about how color affects our decisions and buying habits and I completely identified when they discussed how it affects our moods as I feel such an emotional connection with color.
Our assignments included several color studies, ending with a monochromatic composition using the same hue with high and low key variations. Here is the low key version~
I chose to create a funky retro cityscape as I've always loved those scenes and this was loads of fun to create. It was simple and yet adding those little touches like the lit windows and street lights was simply delightful.
So that was this week's study in color ~ I hope you're all enjoying your own 'color-filled' week!
